Privacy

This describes what the platform actually collects and does with it. Nothing more.

What we collect

When you create an account, we store:

• your email address and display name;
• your password, never in plain text — it is put through scrypt, a one-way hash, and only the hash is stored;
• your account role (viewer or creator) and, if you have requested creator access, that status.

While you watch, we record your position within each episode you have started, so Continue Watching can pick up where you left off. That record is tied to your account and the episode, and nothing else.

Analytics

We run first-party analytics on our own database, to understand things like how many episodes are being finished and where in an episode viewers tend to stop — never a third-party analytics service, tracking pixel, or ad-tech vendor. Most of what we report comes from records already described on this page: account creation dates, sign-ins, your saved watch position, and the creator/takedown review history.

One thing is recorded specifically for this: as you watch, we keep a count, per episode and per minute of runtime, of how many viewing sessions reached that minute. This is not tied to your account or to you — it is a running tally attached only to the episode and the minute mark, with no user id, session id, or timestamp recorded alongside it, so it cannot be traced back to any individual viewer or viewing session. It is how we produce completion rates and drop-off curves without adding a new per-person record.

We do not sell data, and we do not use any of this to target advertising — there is no advertising on the platform.

Our teaser site

We also run a small teaser site at cinecouncil.ai, which has no accounts and no sign-in. Because there is nobody to attach a visit to there, we record the visit itself: which sections of the page you scrolled to, whether you played the trailer and how far through it you got, roughly how long you stayed, your browser’s language and time zone, the width of your browser window, and the site that linked you to us (the host name only — any path or query string is discarded before anything is stored).

This sets no cookie and creates no identifier that follows you to any other site. Visits are grouped by a random id that lives in your browser tab and is discarded when you close it, and which we hash again before storing. Your IP address is never stored; we keep only a salted hash of it, used solely to tell one person reloading the page apart from several different visitors. As on the rest of the platform, this is our own database — no third-party analytics service is involved.

Sessions and cookies

Signing in sets a single cookie, cc_session, which holds a random token — not your identity or any personal data directly. The token is matched against a session record in our database to know who you are; that record is created at sign-in and removed at sign-out or when it expires. The cookie is httpOnly (invisible to page scripts) and sameSite=lax (not sent along on cross-site requests). We do not set any other cookie — no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, no consent-tracking cookie.

Video and images

Video is uploaded to and streamed from Cloudflare Stream — a third-party service that hosts and delivers the video files themselves. Posters and other images are stored and served directly from CineCouncil's own server, not a third party.

What we do not do

There is no third-party analytics, no tracking pixel, and no advertising anywhere on the platform. We do not share your data with any third party beyond Cloudflare's role in delivering video, as described above.

If you believe content on the platform infringes your rights, file a takedown request.
